This one is not for me. I read the first few pages and the opening scene was too graphic for my tastes. Your review solidifies that by you mentioning that it only gets more graphic. I don’t find myself entertained by something so far dark. Thanks for your review. I will pass on this one.

Glad you liked the book. The story seems just about right for my choice. I suppose, the fantasy component aside, the theme can equally be applied to real life as well. We all have darkness within us. It threatens to surface from time to time, but whether we give in to that or not is up to us. Thanks for the review!

A story about witches and vampires. Eve, a witch, is averse to using her powers causing great distress to her power driven parents. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for your underlining review of The Devil's Fool by Rachel McClellan. It appears the author found her original way with witches, vampires, and the darkness within.

Definitely avoiding this one as I don’t like dark and evil themes and abuse is just not something I want in my mind. I am also rather disturbed by the authors use of Biblical names in a book that seems to celebrate evil. This is a real turn off in addition to the overall subject.

While I usually stay away from paranormal fiction, I do enjoy dark fiction, so I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for writing such a great review! I am always on the lookout for a food sci-fi/fantasy read. And the themes of overcoming an abusive upbringing that you mentioned make this book sound like it is one that uses the medium of fantasy to do what it does best- allegory and metaphorically intensify a real world issue or aspect of humanity. I'm a little leery based on your description of the torture scenes, so I will likely have to give this one a pass, but kudos to the author for tackling such dark themes in what sounds like a well written series!

I am usually a fan of fantasy stories with vampires and witches, but I don't think I could stomach reading the torture scene. Just reading your review where you mentioned a starving rat was enough to make me feel sick as I imagined what on earth her parents could do to her with a starving rat. Thank you for your review!

This one sounds a little too dark and violent for my taste. Thanks for a great review.

Character progression is such an important part of the storyline, your comments on it has me very curious. Thank you for this review, I'm really excited about reading the book now.

I never liked vampire fantasies. The ones I've read are cliches and I thought maybe it's because of the vampire aspect. However, this one caught my attention. I like the plot twist in which Eve suddenly likes the dark side. It's something i didn't see coming. The character development is something i'm really fond about and this seems to be perfect for it. Definitely will read this. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the great review! I am not a fan of dark fantasy but I do like the backstabbing element - makes for an interesting read. Maybe I will read this book.

Even though this is something I probably would not pick up on my own, I thought that the themes you mentioned would make the book sound interesting. Maybe I could give this dark book a try. To be honest, I thought the book was a fantasy, too, considering that there are vampires and witches, things like that. Great review!

Well written and very accurate review. I do appreciate the warning about graphic imagery. This gives the reader valuable information to guide a buying decision.
