No, the author did a wonderful job mixing in culture in the story, from Maureen's Irish heritage, to lenas Italian dishes, everything was nicely done.

I think the author portrayed the culture and race very well in the novel, however, if she did more research I think the book could have turned even better than it already is! I think she missed a little on showing discrimination of race at that time, but she did however do a well-done job.

There was no sentiment in how the author portrayed the culture or race. Though the stigma associated with racism wasn't described especially with a child.

I feel like it would be unfair to say the author's depiction of racism was inaccurate because racism affects people in various ways. While Maureen and Jamal's experience was horrible, we can see that Kaylalyla was not particularly given any reason by the people around her to question the fact that she was biracial. So I think the author did a good job.

I find nothing inappropriate in the portrayal of culture and race, it is just the plain truth that can not be covered.

I think Jeannie protrayed culture well enough in this book. More importantly I like how she showed that you shouldn't just judge people by their race because every race has their share of wickedness and pride.

Very good question. The author did some research before writing this book. However, most authors do not, and it is problematic.

Honestly I don't think the author dived too deep to even inaccurately portray culture. It was mostly surface references, rather we got to understand characters as individuals and not through their race.

I think the author did what they thought was good enough but I do think that there should have been a bit more research involved to show the full portrayal of race and culture in that time. More research is always better than just enough research.
