I don’t think this classifies as a stereotype. In reality there is a lot of pressure with taking care of kids it can be overwhelming.

The prejudices that are apparent in this book are those towards biracial families. I love that the author acknowledged their existence.

The part that moved me most in this book was when Maureen's mother was willing to deny the existence of her grandchild just because of racism. I saw it as very cruel. The author didn't deal with this to my satisfaction as Maureen's mother never came around.

The stereotype about single mothers being "neglectful" is also portrayed in the book. Lena had some thoughts about how Kalayla was being raised by her single mother, without even knowing her full story. And despite Lena herself being a single mother at some point.

The author portrays the prejudice in biracial families excellently.
