My favorite character was Lena, throughout the story she was selfless and showed wisdom, and did not let anybody walk over her because she is an old woman. She is the strength behind all the major decisions. I loved her development throughout the book as well.

My favorite character was Lena. The old lady is so thoughtful! Even before she knew who Kalayla was, she was already looking out for her.

Lena because she saw a problem, took action and did her best to help resolve it. Even though she had no obligation to. I loved her selfless attitude and would want to emulate it myself. I do, however, empathize with Kalayla and relate to her so much. She was a child with a grown up attitude because of how self sufficient she had become.

For some reasons, my best character is Lena, her show of charisma and love towards Kalayla is admirable. I also love that she trys to correct a mistake of the past by trying to direct Kalayla since she couldn't do that to her children.

Kalayla just has to be my favorite character too. Her self-reliance, unpredictability, everything. I love the way her character was portrayed in the book.

My favourite character was Maureen. Although the story did centre more on her, unlike with Lena and Kalayla, she was sacrificial. I also liked how she stood her ground and married the love of her life, even if it was going to cost her family.

I really enjoy all the characters and their characterization. However, to choose, I'll choose Kalayla. She was diverse and watching her develop as the story progressed was amazing.

For me, Lena. She filled those missing moments for his sons to Kalayla. She's longing for a family, and thus, she turned her attention to the child who lacking in that matter as well. She loved Kalayla despite its stubbornness.

Maureen is my favorite character in the book. Although things became hard for her after Jamal's death, she kept her heap up to ensure her daughter has an easy life.
