The story of the rise and fall of Elmwood Springs, Missouri over time. Lordor Nordstrom created the beginnings of this town and it is the relationship of him and his descendants to this town history. Lordor a recent immigrant to this country sets up his farm in Missouri and is soon joined by neighbors to establish the small town of Elmwood. As we moved through each generation the social norms of the country are played out in Elmwood. Up to this point of the book, an interesting story is being developed that would compare to many small towns in this country. Then we get to meet the members of this community in the cemetery and how they are watching their town and in small ways affecting the lives of the living. The residents of the cemetery go so far as to assist in solving a murder. In the end, all the members of the cemetery move on to a different existence. Although cute it shows what imagination can achieve. I enjoyed this book and would recommend, but the ending if changed would certainly elevate my opinion of the book.
