Thanks for the visit, T_stone. There's another featured book (The American Life Sef) about immigrating to America. It's written by a Nigerian.

Yes, it is. I hope you can meet Jeanot, too.

I've seen the review and I must say, I'm really looking forward to reading the book. Thanks Miriam.

There's another book about Nigerian immigrants in America (The American Life Sef). What is interesting is that a lot of people in America have forefathers from other places (at least this is my perception). And the native Americans are also not "at home" in their home country (again my perception). In fairness, I think that is how it is everywhere else.

What is definitely true is that we are all citizens of the world.

The plot holes aren't that deep. You can even miss them entirely. Enjoy the fare. Bonne lecture!

Bianka Walter wrote: 09 Nov 2018, 14:20 I loved Spirou and Fantasio! Wow, it's amazing how time dulls memories of the things we loved when we were younger. It seems that the author remembered the time quite well, though.
It's a pity that the well-intentioned editor didn't do a final thorough sweep.
This sounds great :)
A pity I didn't experience those kiddie treats (Tintin, Spirou and Fantasio). But Coco Chanel, Tide, and Prell ring many bells.

Thanks for the visit, Bianka!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kfwilson6! I also get bored with straight history, but the book was a fun way of learning about the past.

Sounds like a fascinating description of post-war Paris and of the US in the 1950s, which was not actually paradise - shock/choc! Many thanks for an interesting and balanced review.
Merci, bon ami! Can you tell me what your first sentence means? The translation I got doesn't make much sense to me. LOL!

The sentence means: "What a pity the book isn't in French!" because I thought it might be when I first saw the title and author. Bonne journee! (ou nuit?)
