Sakilunamermaid wrote: 23 Sep 2018, 18:55 I stumbled upon this review, the title of the book intrigued me. The absurd world Abi lives in is one that I know I would like to take a look at. I myself am prone to weird if not frightening dreams, I can't imagine that having a good nights sleep would ever be a bad thing and send someone's life in such a spiral. I look forward to finding out the mystery of this world and how she makes out in this situation. Thanks for the review.
I think you would like it! Thanks for reading my review and commenting. :)

It was a really interesting take on a subject I didn’t altogether expect—and which I’ll withhold to avoid spoiling the end.
Great review! This book promises an unusual plot plus I am intrigued to find out what you are withholding in the review.

this book sounds absolutely exquisite. I don't read many surreal books but if this can rival Murakami, I will grow to love it I'm sure.

How different to write about a button maker. This makes the plot stand out to me, the reading of an atypical character
You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

Camille Turner wrote: 22 Sep 2018, 18:31 As for the content, the story kept me in suspense the entire time, and I wasn’t sure what would happen to the characters or even what was truly going on behind the strange world until the very end. The setting is so richly described and always changing that I felt like I was actually being swept from place to place alongside the characters. I think that Basi’s descriptions are one of her strongest writing points, and they were proportionally mixed with interesting dialogue, a balance that many authors struggle to achieve.
Oh my. I don't get that excited about fiction (I know, blasphemous), but you had me from the first few sentences of your review. What an intriguing premise. And surreal. The way you describe the author's writing, I may have to go read a sample, now. I love an author who can balance dialogue with narrative elements. Too much dialogue can be really tiring. Thanks for the introduction to this interesting book.

Yes, read a sample and see what you think! I do too; too much of either one is tedious. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Eva! :)

A satire revolving around the life of an old button maker in a weird world sounds refreshing. Well edited, creative premise, and bizarre world adds to the appeal of the book. It also reminds me of Kafka. It sounds too surrealist for me, but I am glad you enjoy it. Thank you for the review!
