Sounds like a good-read, but I'm not too interested in this one. I'll pass this one.
Thanks for the review.

I had a chance to read this book a while back and found it to not be my cup of tea. The few mild sexual scenes weren't something I enjoyed reading either.

Since I've read the book, I can testify to the fact that Hiram McDowell is a controversial character who destroys the lives of the people around him in the blink of an eye and doesn't assume responsibility for his actions. However, his redemption story is interesting in terms of imprevisibility and originality. Thanks for a great review!

I really enjoyed reading this review. As much as I enjoyed reading the book itself. I like how you mention the impact of the choices made and what a human is capable of doing when life does not turn out as expected. The book is an intriguing study of human nature through fiction and a really good read.

The McDowell in the first half of the book is like the character you love to hate, a J.R Ewing who no one could trust but they still rode his coat tails to achieve the next level. Even his children didn't know how to understand him many times. He felt like he was invincible and untouchable, but that all changed when his family was in crisis. For some criminals, prison is where people see the light and make a positive change in their life. McDowell's epiphany occurred living in the wilderness. He was able to stop blaming others for his fall from grace when he meets Maud, a Montana woman who was the start of his turnaround. This novel is far from fluff. It is quality that gets you thinking on a variety of topics of right and wrong.

I found your review quite interesting. I read the sample of this book and I don't think it's my cup of tea as I seem to have developed a bit of a dislike for the main character. It may be a bit of a heavy read as well. Thanks for the well-written and detailed review!

I've heard a lot of controversial opinions about this book before. The protagonist is, for sure, intriguing. Would be interesting to read a book with such a strong character.
