Thanks for the review. The book sounds like a compelling short read despite the lack of quotation marks when it comes to conversations. It does frighten me that such story may be real and more common than we think.

I was totally into this story, waiting to see how things would turn out. I agree, this is probably more common and closer to reality than we realize. Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your stopping by.

Ouch. It seems like Marta couldn't catch a break at all in this book. I really hope she got out of that situation eventually, and hopefully the book lives up to the promise it has.

I wonder why the author omitted the quotation marks for speech. I wouldn't be able to read a book without them. It's a shame because the story sounds worthwhile. Thank you for reviewing!

Great review, but I think this one might be too heavy for me.

I think a story with a theme showing development of the characters can easily catch the attention of the readers. Amazing review! :tiphat:

Your summary and evaluation of the story made me want to read it. Good job! Though it seems draining to read because of all the conflicts, I think it's one of those books that is engaging. 😄

It's sad to think this happens all too often. Thank you for your review. You did a wonderful job explaining the strengths and weaknesses of the book. I could feel Marta's excitement and then horror as she's ripped from her home. Poor Marta! I hope she returns home safely!

Marta's plight sounds horrible, though the settings sound fantastic!

Short novels with well developed characters are always a pleasure to read. Seems like the author put a lot of effort in this book.
Thanks a lot for a comprehensive review :tiphat:

Marta's life puts a whole new perspective on the effects of war on population. From your review, her story is quite touching and I hope I will be able to read it in more detail.

I visited San Sebastian 25 years ago. Maybe I need to read this just to revisit that beautiful city.

I am a little confused about the setting being Spain, where she got a job because she could speak multiple languages, but then she is kidnapped and taken somewhere she doesn't speak the language...Is she still in Spain? Or is it that she gets taken to San Sebastian (where they might be speaking Basque) or Barcelona (where they might be speaking Catalan)?
