Johnny Cook is my favorite character. He stayed so calm throughout the ordeal of being kidnapped and held captive in the jungle. I was impressed by how he put his time to use learning the language instead of stressing about his circumstances. He didn't show anger at his captors which I would not have been able to do! He was a classic example of making the best of a bad situation!

I also loved the sibling relationship between Jacko and Sarah. They were both amazing characters with Jack O'brien always easily coming up with original humour in the back and forth. Would Jacko not merrit as someone's favorite character?

This is a hard question because I actually liked so many of the characters. However, Sarah is really amazing. She's so independent and resourceful. Even her brother, Jacko finds her skills very inspiring. She's definitely a favorite of mine.

I want to vote for Sarah. Though risky, she was able to do her job as a tracker on a Jungle. She was able to use her skill.

Johnny Crook is definitely my best character here. Firstly, his dominance in the entire story. He's taken most of the episodes. Secondly, his agressiveness, sharpness and liveliness. He's made the story lively by asking questions, massive participation in conversations to name but a few.

Thirdly, he's very courageous. We see him despite having been kidnapped by armed group of men, matched through a thick jungle and taken to the leaders of the armed men, he never keeps quiet. He has the guts to ask them why he was there. The conversation he engages himself with the chief of the armed group, tells you that he is composed and fearless.

My favorite character in the story is Sarah Nangala. See how a woman was taking the lead where men were."What would have happened if Sarah had not seen that nylon tripwire?" This woman has exceptional tracking skills.

I can see that most of the votes for Sarah being the favourite character in this story are only based on her tracking skills, her presumed independence, and her unique vocabulary.
Are there no other female characters, however minor, who can boast similar attributes?

Certainly, the love interests of Jamie and Jacko are interesting. I love how they take Sarah under their wings and teach her a new culture. And I do like Sarah. But most of all I like how Jacko is a chameleon.

I will refrain from choosing any favorite character. Jacko, Jamie, and Sarah would, of course, have that chivalrous attributes of risking their lives for Johnny Cook. Although Sarah is a very necessary character in the novel, she will be only having a supporting role. Besides, the author would sound anti-feminist if not having casted a female. And just consider that even war pictures are made not boring by including female nurses in the military camps, warships, or submarines.

I really liked the character of Sarah, and was disappointed many times as her character had much more to offer.
