He kind of does in this book! Valerian pretends to be the good guy and actually guides Will and helps him a handful of times throughout the book in order to put up a good guy facade
Another way the author used the theme of friendship was to sneak in Victor Valorian's antagonistic side and make it unnoticed.
Which is also sort of real life-like. Sometimes "friends" stab you in the back
Yes, it was a realistic situation where even your closest friends might betray you. In this story Valerian was a murderer who hid his nature and motives with charm and promises of friendship.

It was also used as a way to introduce new characters an further the plot.
Friendship as well as those not considered friends (like brainy for instance). He was introduced through a friend, but his character shishines through being disliked
Yes, characters like Brainy could be discounted as possible friends to Will and in doing so introduce him and his personality to the plot.
Not that brainy was substantial to the plot, but his non-friendship made the lives of 13 yr old boys seem more believable

Which is practically the worst facade of friendship one could do

There is an adage that says 'if you want to run fast, run alone but if you want to run far, run with people. This pretty much explains the importance of friendship in our everyday lives.

I love that saying!

In what ways do you think that quote relates to will Nd his friends in this particular story?

I think that quote is perfect for this story and for Will's situation- by himself, he would have never gotten far.

Friendship is a necessary evil. It can be helpful but sometimes disastrous. We need to know how to deal with friends.

The only thing is I don't think he would have gotten anywhere fast if he was by himself either

In this book I think there were examples of book. Peter was a great friend who contributed a lot. Valerian was a fake friend who was the epitamy of disasterous

What is your take on this?

I think one of the most vallued relationship is friendship. This but in life.

So, Will did the right thing by getting as much as he could.

Evidently, he goals were reached.

Thank you for such a question.

For Will's adventure through Echoland, Friendship was an instrumental part of the journey...book positive friendships like Peter, Wolfèa, Aurilius and others. Also negative or false friendship in the case of Victor Valorian.

Every hero should have a great sidekick. Peter is the kind of friend that anyone would be proud to have. He was such a supportive and likable character.

And a bit of comic relief

With all that he was trying to accomplish, Will needed both friends in animal form and human. Peter was most impressive and really shows that one good and true friend is all one really needs to get past obstacles in life. Just having one person in your corner can be enough to help one keep moving ahead. I really enjoyed that part of the book as they seemed so close to one another.
Everything happens for a reason...
