I'm no expert, but I didn't have any trouble with the language and terminology used in the book. It seemed pretty straightforward.

Sometimes using unfamiliar terminology to the reader can hinder the experience, but even though I sometimes had to google some terms, I felt like if he hadn't used the terminology it wouldn't have seemed as realistic.

The terminology brought realism in the story and made it more relatable to me as someone who has lived next ao a harbor.

Actually, the sea terminology wasn't new to me, thanks to Pirates of The Caribbean, rather it helped to develop and further strengthen its setting.

While reading, I repeatedly got a feeling of "yes, mmmhmmm, that sounds boaty", without having any idea what was actually happening. I think I might have followed the details better if I had bothered to look up the words I didn't know, but I guess I didn't care enough to study. The relevant details were explained well enough that I could follow the plot.
I had the same feeling. I think that the author did a great job in describing what was happening on the ship; I was still able to follow the story even without knowing any of the terminology used. Also, I found the story so captivating that I didn't feel bored or irritated by those complicated parts.

Several words were new and I am happy that I could learn them

I think that using specific terminology can be quite difficult because readers have to take the time to look the words up to understand the novel better. Sometimes this can detract from the storyline and other times it is good to learn some new words.

The specific terminology makes the story more believable. Even though I don't look up every unknown term in the dictionary, I find it annoying when there are no footnotes or other references explaining specific terms.

I had a really difficult time with all the terminology and half my family are navy. I new the basics, but the parts of the ship were especially confusing. It really slowed down the flow of the story for me.

I also learned a few words but I usually learn things in books with terminology I am unfamiliar with. I didn't get irratated really and I did look words up but that pretty common for me.

The parts of the ship and other terminologies were new to me. Sometimes I have to google it to fully understand what is happening. But it wasn't irritating for me at all, even if it slows down my reading. On the other hand, I find it educational and informative. :D

Although irritating, I personally like the fact that the author used technical terminology as it gives a sense of realism and shows that he has done his research well. On the positive side, I learnt something new. Also, generally you could understand the terms based on the context so it wasn't too irksome.

This book may have a lot of new vocabulary but every time I read a book there is at least one word I haven't seen before.
