Jacko was just comical. The manner he plays match maker between Jamie and Monique's sister is exhilarating.

The best line I liked was when he said, "I’d be just as happy to swag down near the riverbank somewhere. I could sleep on a clothesline in a cyclone tonight."
What humor in this book made you laugh the hardest and which character said it.
Jacko seems to be the funniest character, especially on missions. I didn't laugh out loud, just giggled a bit. The imagination of the humor made me laugh.

The novelist has also weaved in elements of humor which adds to the interest like “I am happy to fight the whole German army but I am not sure I am brave enough to ask her” (pg. 95) to which Monica replies “I shall be following this fascinating romance carefully and if you don’t do anything about it in the future, you can forget the German army, I shoot you myself.”

I forgot about that part, but since you brought it up again, I could see that it's not just Jacko who has the wits. Monica is an interesting character as well. Thanks for this! :techie-studyingbrown:

I haven't read much of the book as yet, but so far Jacko seems to be the most amusing. He's a good counterpoint to the seriousness going on elsewhere. No favorite quote yet, but the owl theme sounds like it's going to be fun.

I think, by adding humour to a war based fiction, author have lightened the gruesome nature of war. It can attract a certain number of readers and at the same time can repel some as well

I did not pay much attention to this theme while reading this book. But as obvious, Jacko was always able to bring some humor in conversations.

Although the book is a historical fiction, the author manages to tell the story without overwhelming the reader with all the historical details. This helps lighten the story and makes it easier to read.

Well, I think looking at thie threads here, I mist definitely say that ut attracted a lot of readers than the number of people being repelled by it. I guess the author did well. :tiphat:

Jacko has a unique and funny way that makes the reading experience very lively and enjoyable. For example "I’ll have you in the loving arms of a pretty nurse in about an hour or so.”
" The doctors are going to have some fun pulling bits of metal out of you, though.” There are many more such humorous lines😀

The use of humour in a book always makes it all the more worth to read. I imagine it makes a book with war as its context more bearable.
