I think Michael is the typical career person. He was in for the expected benefit. When that didn't materialize, he wanted to inflict harm. But Hiram wasn't totally clean, too.
I totally agree with this!

Did anybody else expect more plot from Michael? He seemed to fade away.

I did! When he entered the picture, I thought he was going to be the guy to deliver McDowell his final comeuppance, especially because he was so bitter about being cheated by him. I think once Paige started digging into McDowell's life, I got that Michael wouldn't be doing much more in the book. Seemed like he could have just been left out.

I think Michael is an illustration of the way revenge may transform one person to such an extent that he starts resembling his oppressor. In my opinion, he is not much different from Hiram. He shouldn't have accepted Hiram's proposal from the beginning.

I think Michael is a very typical career person. He was there for the expected benefit.Michael felt betrayed and therefore he felt that he had to seek for justice by putting Heram down.

Micheal is the most undeveloped and under-written character in the entire book. He shows up in like 5 chapters and totally disappears. I don't know what to comment about his character

I think it was fair enough that Michael wanted revenge. He was outsmarted by Hiram and it didn't surprise him. Hiram needed a little wake up call.

Michael felt betrayed, therefore he felt he had to get "justice" by putting Hiram down. It wasn't right but he's a career oriented person and he would do anything not to lose on that stage.
That’s how I viewed Michael too. He was very focused on his career and would have agreed to almost anything to move ahead and when that didn’t materialize as promised he wanted revenge

I thought there was an element of vengeance in his character. He also wanted to achieve something that is why he did what he did, so blaming it all on Hiram in this situation is not exactly fair.

Michael was an opportunist, he supported Hiram as his reward was promised but when it was not delivered he turned against him, and left no stone unturned to expose Hiram.

He agreed to fix votes in favor of Hiram, when Hiram agreed to give him the position he wanted and when he didn't get the promised promotion, he wanted to ruin Hiram. If he got it, he would have never dragged Hiram's faults in to the open. So, it's clear Michael too is a disgusting person. He only did what he did for revenge. If he got what he wanted, he would have let Hiram do any disgusting and unlawful deed turning a blind eye.
