I don't know about everyone else but I think wolves and shapeshifting among other things when I think of mysticism

The capacity to shape shift into a wolf doesn't subtract from my reading experience and it seems to be well done to me.

I think it is an interesting aspect of this story. it at first is not the normal form of shapeshifting and then it becomes slightly traditional, however, druids were reputedly known for this mystical ability. I think its a fine testament to the culture of what the author has brought to the story.

The shapeshifting is brilliant, though some parts are a bit messy and a bit stretched out.

I think the element of shape shifting is well tied into the story and does well in adding to aura of mysticism. This is an element covered in most paranormal romance and I'm intrigued by it.

I thought that Marrock shapeshifting into a wolf and turning others into his wolf pack was a little too much. It might have been better to have him see through the eyes of the wolf and control it. This would have been more in line with Catrin's ability.

I think if actual fantasy is to be mixed with historical fiction, it needs to be there at the start, otherwise, it can be seen as a deus ex-machine to get characters out of trouble later.

I thought it was tied into the book because her brother is a nemesis that wants not only the throne but a hybrid breed to rule over as well. Then he has a human and a wolf race to rule over.

Marrock's ability to shape-shift into a wolf did not detract from the reading experience. I think it added to the aura of the mysticism of this book. Apollo's Raven is a blend of historical fiction and fantasy, hence, I found the shape-shifting element to be properly tied to the story.

I've always interpreted wolves as mystical creatures, so the ability to shape shift into a wolf doesn't detract from my reading experience. Plus, this book does have some fantastical elements to it, so it's not too much of a stretch to have that ability in this book.
I agree. I started this book already knowing it was going to have a big fantasy element to it, so maybe that's why it didn't strike me as out of place.

I think it ties into the sense of mysticism that the author is trying to convey. I figured it was a fantasy novel so it was not much of a surprise.

I think Marrock’s shapeshifting fits in with the overall theme of the book. Rhan, the former queen was a shapeshifter. Catrin was planning to hone her skills with the intention of learning to shift herself. Marrock’s ability was not out of sync.

This book deals with fantasy and mystic creatures. So, it is not too far stretched to add a shapeshifter into the story. Besides, I love reading about shapeshifters, which gave me all the more reasons to read this one.

I liked the shapeshifting element of the antagonist's character. It sat well with the mythical nature of the plot and only improved the setting.
