By the end of the book, Mor essentially gets her happy ending, but what of poor Vala? There seemed to be some foreshadowing with her, and I think her disappearance makes her a more mysterious character. She is the only family member we stop hearing about after the initial chapters and I think this sets her apart a bit.
I didn't think of it that way. I just saw her as a character whose sole function in the book was to be the Roman's hostage so Marcellus would stay with the Celts. The book didn't give me any reason to care about her, but you do have a point that she could be more established in the future.
Haha, this book didn't really give me a reason to care too deeply about any of the characters...perhaps Vala annoyed me the least because she was so absent. I think it would have been real poor execution by the author if it were the case that Vala act as such a topical character.

I'd love to read the next book in the series, but my hope if for a complete twist in the story that has me totally glued to the pages. Alliances could be broken or former warring camps could unite against a greater threat. What I'm not looking forward to is a continuation of a love story between star-crossed lovers.

But don't you want to find out what happens to Vala? That is one of the only reasons I would consider picking up another book in this series. I have so many scenarios running through my head about her time in the camp.
It just seemed she was thrown away. Why would both of her fathers leave her behind?!!! They were unsure of their own lives, why wouldn't they protect her, too?!! As I said, it just really upset me that she was left behind when the others got away.

I don't think I will be reading the second book. It was an interesting concept, and some aspects I enjoyed. Overall, the book fell pretty flat for me. I think I was a bit bogged down with all of the historical/ political references of the time period. I know that was largely the point, but it just didn't keep me interested.

Yes! I cannot wait to read the second book, Dagger’s Destiny. I preordered it and everything. It is supposed to arrive on Wednesday! I want to know what happens to both of them.

I found myself dissuaded from reading the second book, despite the very clear cliff hanger the book generated for its readers. I am slightly selfish and find myself greedy for satisfaction in character arcs. Books that cannot provide enough enjoyable moments between crucial characters in the first book, at least in my mind, is not going to provide them in the second book. If there had been a little less doubt and distrust between Catrin and Marcellus, I might have rooted for their love enough to read the rest of the series.

I enjoyed the first book, and I will definitely read the second one as it goes out. I want to see what in store for Catrin and Marcellus.

I don't think so. I have described this book as underdeveloped, but even developed there doesn't seem to be much to it.

I don't think so. I really fought to finish the book too much history for me. I mean historical references
