I think that it would be a good idea to have dad included, because they play an important role into a kids life. Therefore, it would make the story more interesting.

I think adding a dad would immediately exclude the number of people that the book could apply to. With no dad, the book can appeal to:

[*] A family with a stay-at-home mom - he could be at work
[*] A family with 2 parents working 9-5 - maybe the dad is golfing
[*] A family where mom and dad work different shifts - she leaves when dad gets home
[*] Single mother - something more and more common

By having a dad in the picture, you might lose the connection to the story, especially for the single mothers. While single dad families and two-dad families are out there, they’re fewer than the single mother families, so the book can reach a larger group.

It would be good. But maybe the author had a personal reason for neglecting the dad character.

Kids are very intelligent in this generation; with or without a dad, it does not matter anymore.

Having a dad could be a possibility.

Perhaps dad may appear in one of the sequels.

As it is though, not showing or including a father may be all right too.

The reality is that many families are headed by a single parent. Seeing two parent families may increase feelings of longing or loss for kids who don't have a dad present in their lives.

Why does there have to be a dad? Why not an uncle? Or another mommy? A step-dad? Or no one else? Power to the single mom! Familes come in all shapes and sizes. Its about the love they share, not who they share it with!

I believe a children's story is not complete without a dad. I personally think highly of my dad as my superhero when I was a kid so it would be really wonderful if the author involved a father figure in the book even for just a short scene.

I think if young children are reading this then there should be a dad. I think every child should know that they deserve a father ( or mother for that matter)

I don't think that the absence of a dad really hurts the book overall. Am not against a dad being included, though.

A dad would have been a wonderful addition to the story but still I would say the story was perfect without a dad. This book is definitely a great book for children though dad's character is missing.

I think there should be a father figure included in the story. Maybe in the first book, Toni was shown doing chores around home. And in the sequel, he may play outdoor games with dad

Well just because dad isn't in the book it doesn't mean he isn't around. He could be out or at work.

I think it’s important, especially in children’s books, to show families that aren’t the typical mom, dad and children. Some families don’t have two parents, some have two mom’s or two dads and to present the perfect family of one mom and one dAd could leave children feeling like they or their family doesn’t measure up or isn’t “normal”. To present different types of families show that everyone is different and families can be different and still be normal

Yes, there is need for a dad. Their function in family setups is unappreciated. There are certain roles in a family set up that can only be done by men.
