I think its for purposes of attribution that the drawings in the book are his pieces of art. Actually, the cover page was attractive.

The name Da Vinci catches the eye. He's an artist who is still the most well known (ask a random person to name any painter and he will be in the top 5 named every time), has had his character used in video games and movies like "Assassins Creed" and "Da Vinci's Demons," and he is still talked about by professionals.

It would be foolish to not drop his name in the title, ethics be damned.

I guess the pieces of art portrayed herein are Da Vinci works and his name on the cover page is for attribution.

Maybe, his pieces of work have been incorporated into the book. I think the drawings are his works. That's what Da Vinci is known for all over the world.

cristinaro wrote: 03 Jun 2018, 04:12 Leonardo da Vinci is an episodic character in the novel. Considering the overabundance of fictional books using his life as a pretext, would you agree with such a marketing strategy?

Do you think that Fioretta and Giuliano’s story and the different references to Leonardo’s work are reasons enough to use his name in the title? Is it ethical or not?
I think it was just an excuse to ride off the success of The Da Vinci Code.

Like others' my mind immediately went to The Da Vinci Code, and it is possible that that was the author's, or marketing team's intention. At the end of the day, nobody has a monopoly on fiction referring to Da Vinci though, so I do not see anything particularly unethical about it, though art lovers hoping that the artist might have a larger role may be disappointed.

I would say it isn't unethical and probably was a good marketing strategy. It catches the eye of those browsing and makes them want to take a closer look to see what the story is about.

It's almost clickbait but the story is well worth it.

I guess the pieces of art are Da Vinci's. That's an acknowledgment of the role he played in the book plot development.

Having the name Da Vinci grabs reader's attention immediately, like an advert it can cause people to act. To read.

Dolor wrote: 03 Jun 2018, 20:59 Since da Vinci is a very well-known artist, it might spark as a marketing strategy but there's nothing unethical in doing so despite the fact that the author is using his name. I agree with what Dael Reader said, "The name is in the title because the "alleged" missing painting by da Vinci is a thread that holds the storylines together."
I totally agree!!

The name of Leonardo is having a great marketing value. So there's nothing unethical to considering the marketing strategy for the name of Vinci.

Peoples minds are programmed to look search and react for familiarity. Most people know and recognize the name they are more likely to give it a second look.

Everyone knows who Da Vinci is, the put that on the book cover as the title is a bold, risky move but I'm sure it paid off. It isn't misleading, in past lives Angela did know who Da Vinci was, so from my personal opinion that is a fitting title for the book.
