If you are a mother with children in an abusive relationship, you owe it to yourself and your children to get out of that relationship.

I think an important lesson from Ironbark Hill is that the young must be protected. The effects of alcohol abuse and domestic violence are far reaching and devastating. The inability of the characters to react maturely and confidently to many situations all stem from the abuse she suffered at the hand of the step-father.

I feel like the grand lesson that resonates with the whole story is that love is a beautiful thing that is hard to find, and in its absence, lacking substitutes are very tempting, though not worthwhile in the long run.
“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme” - Mark Twain. Dare we say the same thing about every story that gets told in the world?
