Unfortunately, I think Natalie's story would remain similar no matter what setting it was placed in. Racism is still rampant in America, especially against Native Americans and Black people, though every minority is affected. Some of the racism in America is less apparent, but it is institutionalized, which would still decide Natalie's place in the social hierarchy and would absolutely make her more vulnerable in many ways.
