I agree that girls did tend to get married at a younger age back then, so it might not have happened quite as frequently because of that. However, I do think it was, also, swept under the rug more back in those days.

Immoral things that happened before were kept as secret as possible. Nowadays, the effects of media broadcasts make these things seem happened rampantly. It is because of media that I believe these teenage extramarital affairs are more rampant these days than in the '50s.
