I would not want to dismiss the gun if it could save my family or anyone else's. Is it the answer? I guess if you sit down and look at your family members and try to imagine a life without any one of them in it permanently. Then Ask yourself again Is the gun really the answer?

I personally don't think guns are the answer. All right, let's say you have a gun-wielding maniac in your house waving one around and threatening to kill your family. If you had a gun, would you really be able to protect them better? Or would it just be a case of an eye for an eye—the gunman shoots someone and you shoot them back, and assuming neither of you miss, you have two fatalities?

And then consider a case where guns are banned altogether, and this situation wouldn't happen in the first place, provided checks are stringent and illegal buying of firearms is minimal.

I'm not saying owning/knowing how to use a gun would *never* be able to protect your loved ones or that it's always going to be disadvantageous, because there are definitely circumstances in which it can help (think rabid animals you really can't prevent from attacking, but I digress), but chances are that if you have a gun, so does the person who breaks into your house. And then it may or may not become a cycle of gun-owning and one-upmanship because everyone has guns.

Or, if you want to argue it another way, peace is definitely a better option to me than violence. :)

Guns are both dangerous for the person being shot at and the shooter. If avoidable they should not be used in a harmful way. However, in America non-criminals have the right to possess and if used correctly, should be able to own one, whether for hunting, or protection.

Gun is never the answer. Possession of a gun creates anxiety and this is not a good thing because even the slightest disorder will trigger the urge to use the gun.

I am a strongly opposed to guns in the hands of people who are not mentally sound but in the current world when I am off living on my own someday I can respect the fact that I might want a gun for self-defense. I am not large and it can be hard for me to fight back so I could see the benefits of having a gun. Personal opinion!

Guns are okay in the right hands. But remember it takes a special person to fire one at another person. I often wonder what kind of situation could force me to use and actuall take another’s life. Would never want to be put in that kind of situation and will never know what I would do until I am put in that situation.

I enjoy guns for pleasure, being able to shoot inanimate objects and practice aiming/precision. I truly do not understand why or how someone could use a gun to harm someone else or restrain them, it seems soulless to do such a thing.

No, gun is definitely not the answer in a home. Accidents could happen

I think we should not put gun first in our lives. We should just use alternative methods to solve situations.

Yes, guns can be very lethal when they land on the wrong hands.

Yes, I think that they should only be used as a last resort.
