Their life was truly difficult. The conditions under which Bright Eyes survived with her pregnancy were really harrowing.

There is one aspect that I found good in the book for those women and that was choosing whom they wanted to marry as for the rest of it I think not life must have been very hard for them.
No idea is a bad idea.

Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.

Life as a woman back then is definitely unlike today - women of the past were merely seen as objects, possessions of men to do as they wished. Women have certainly come a long way since then, with suffrage rights, although I feel that there is still more to be done to actually achieve gender equality.

life would have been very weird and tough for women because some culture here in Nigeria legally gives way to the discrimination of women especially when fate made them lose their husbands.

some culture will permit the brother of the husband to take over the property of his late brother and his financial assets and at most times take over the woman and when the woman refuses to concur to the her late husband's brother she definitely finds herself in very ill and devastated situation.

I would imagine it was hard for them because in the past they didn't have that many rights as they do now.

The fact that they kidnapped "stole" women from other villages for wives was probably a common understanding between the villages. I can't say that I agree with the way they were treated but in today's society woman, and children are taken and not for wives. Sure, women have more of a say in their everyday lives but if kidnapped "stolen" they would have a worse life now because today they know freedom.

I think less focus is on marriage now, especially marrying well. Women definitely have come further career-wise as well.

Women have always played an important role throughout history. Remember what Adam said when God created Eve to be his helpmeet and companion. "At last".

Yes, I think we came a long way from those days. Back to those days woman thought man are the one from whom they are identified and they feel pride from what their man do and what they are. But today life is changed and woman are way equal to man and have their own identity.
