Strong Heart's Comrades

Post by Manang Muyang »

Sarah met a number of Native Americans during her Ice Age journey. I believe they contributed much to her growth in the story. Who among these colorful characters made the most impact on Strong Heart?

Was it Thrower? They were so many and somehow it was easy to lose track of them. I think she and Thrower liked each other and had the story progressed, they'd probably have gotten married.

I got confused amongst the many characters, and lost track of who were "good guys" and who were "bad." The most memorable was probably Thrower, and I do think he had more of a positive impact on Strong Heart.

To refresh everyone's memory, here is a list of the "people."

The Men: Thin Hair (leader), Fat Hair, Watcher, Pretty Face, Thrower (son of Thin Hair)

The Women: Long Braid (wife of Fat Hair), Bright Eyes (wife of Watcher), Heavy, Anger

The Captives: Weeps a Lot and Weeps a Lot More (sisters), Woman too Soon, Cold Eye, Tree Hide, Rock Hide

Thrower taught the captives how to throw darts. Pretty Face resented Strong Heart for having a better aim.

I believe Pretty Face was the one who taught Strong Heart the most; she was made stronger because of his active dislike of her. As in real life, trials that don't kill us only make us stronger.

I also agree that Pretty Face was the one who helped her character grow the most. His dislike towards her and his actions helped to make her stronger.

I too think that Pretty Face had the biggest impact on Strong Heart, but I also believe that Thrower had some influence as well. Pretty Face's actions towards Strong Heart made her grow stronger as a person, but Thrower had more of a caring influence on her, which may have softened that outer shell that she had been carrying around with her. I don't know for sure, but it's possible that it is a combination of all the comrades that she had interactions with.

Definitely, all of them contributed to the empowered Sarah. Her new name should be Stronger Heart.

I can't believe I've not read this book yet. The characters' names have caught my attention. I am guessing these names stem from their attributes?

Yes, the names stemmed from attributes, physical or otherwise. The book didn't take me long to read, so you could probably squeeze it in while it's still BOTM.

Yes, you should definitely read the book. My favorite part was reading about Strong Heart's past.

I think both Thrower and Pretty Face had a strong impact on Sarah. Thrower helped her to fight and supported her while Pretty Face came in the form of a trouble.

I agree they equally played a part in the development of her character.

I think it is Thrower. He taught Sarah so many things, including throwing the dart. I think Sarah's courage even came from there.
