"Love" Scenes.

Post by sophiemer642 »

In the book, there is love, but no descriptive "racy scenes" if you know what I mean.

Do you think gushy, descriptive love scenes make a better book, or is it best to just leave out the details?

In a romance novel, there needs to be gushy and over descriptive scenes. In any other genre, no so much.

I am not a fan of racy love scenes, which is why I do not enjoy romance novels. I would rather the details just be left out, if it is not an intricate part of the plot.

I agree with the two previous comments. Some things are better left to the reader's imagination.

I'm personally not into the racy/gushy scenes. I admit they have their place in some genres and/or plots, but I'm perfectly okay without them. I find them a little cheesy a lot of the time.

Honestly it all depends on the type of story and whether it fits into the storyline itself. If it's a soft sweet romance novel then not necessarily. A hot steamy romance? Then yes, I expect that to be in there and will be disappointed if it's not. But if the story is more about espionage, drama and danger...I'd be on the fence about it. I might be okay with maybe once scene but not of where it becomes the focus of the story.

I agree. I read a wide range of genres and select a story depending on what I am in the mood for at any given moment. When I'm reading a romance novel, I expect such scenes. When I'm reading say SciFi, I would not expect them to take up a large portion of the novel and would expect them to be appropriate to the rest of the story content.
Interested in books that help one's spirit move beyond the ordinary.

I don't think there is a need for those type of scenes. You can be sexy without overt details.

Sometimes love scenes enhance a story, sometimes they don't. I don't think it was necessary to this particular story line, the implication was sufficient.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

I think really racy scenes are dumb. The more graphic they are the more I feel like authors are just writing them so their readers will think they are edgy or something or their story line is weak they have to appeal to other senses. Smut is no substitute for substance.

More often, it depends upon reader's taste that if he likes such scenes or not . But I personally feel tthat they take novel to a new height .When there is too much of drama, thriller, action and mystery , you do need some spicy romance with each and every description to add love in that atmosphere . Without description, love scenes doesn't look that racy or romantic

Racy scenes are only acceptable in erotic fiction. Love scenes I tolerate in romance novels. Unless written very well, I find love scenes unnecessary and distracting.

I agree. It's sometimes overrated and cheesy and sometimes it's needed to match up to the descriptive narrative in the rest of the book.

I agree with Amagine but I still think that in romance novels there is no need to write pornographic material.
