Women are beaten down in every way imaginable. Men try to show their dominance over women by abusing them mind, spirit, and body. It's very common, but not all men do this. Despite Nadia's culture and traditions she still did the unbelievable and fought for her and her sons freedom. She still fought every day to ensure their freedom.

In what ways has Nadia inspired you or changed your views on freedom? Has she opened your eyes to what many women have to face, has she empowered you, or given you hope?

I wouldn't say she gave me hope, I think more than anything she made me feel that I should be a bit more cautious when it comes to wanting revenge. When you have a child, you have so much more to lose and it was reckless for her to call the police on her ex-husband. I would have chosen another route.

I thought she was a very inspiring character. I admire the importance she placed on independence, like in the scene at the end where she was prepared to take the trip to Verona alone just to assert her independence (although she changed her mind). I think she's clearly the most inspiring and clear-minded character in the book.

It was so tough for Nadia. Several women undergo such circumstances in marriages in their daily lives. Only the strong ones survive. I loved the Nadia character because she was a strong woman. Despite everything she never gave up in life.

She's a character that most can look up to, I love her independence and her determination to do whatever to protect her son.
