If I had a friend with me, I would definitely want to explore. Alone, probably not. Boys are different though. So, I found that believable.

My sister and I explored the woods behind our house all the time. If we had found something like that we would have been too curious to leave.

Bret is young and curious. It was only natural that he went on exploring the town because it was the adventure with his father that he wished. Not spending the time indoors with his mother. So he went out searching for what he signed for.
