Arestus of Wood is a normal 12 summers old until his father, Alton, mysteriously and suddenly dies. Her mother is lying on her deathbed, and no kind of medicine being administered is aiding her. His late father was a healer, and he has tried everything he taught him to no avail. One morning, his uncle, Axton, arrives unannounced. Therefore, this comes as a relief to the young boy who's glad to see a relative come to help. But all is not well as, he soon learns the true motive of his uncles' presence in their household.
His mother's last wish is for him to go away to the Haunted Islands and find a treasured relic left by his father. This is what his uncle is after, and he's not the good man he pretends to be when handling Stratus. However, one morning during his routine morning rituals he visits his father's grave only to be surprised. This marks the beginning of the story: In Pursuit of the Pale Prince.
This book is good and quite enjoyable. I must say I found it quite intriguing and read it in one go: being done in less than two hours. The story captured my interest from the beginning as the language used is simple, hence, making a smooth storyline. Arestus is a hero in this book, and his friend Cirin affirms this. This young boy who no one knew him nor his father carries out a very important mission during this short war and delivers the crown to the rightful owner. He exhibits confidence while fighting off wolves, facing enemies sent by his uncle and finally reached his destination. I think this should be a children's book as well as historical fiction as children will learn a lot from the story.
I must, however, point out several things that didn't sit well with me. First, it's the chapters: some were too short. For example, chapter one to six should mesh into one chapter; it looks like bits and pieces held apart. Second, the errors in this book are just too much. Errors like improper punctuation, wrong spellings, and no spacing. One error that stood out severally I don't really know where to place it whether it's a typo or something else. I don't also know if it was just my copy and I quote an example below.
I rate this book a 1 out of 4 stars. Because of the reasons stated above: I would start reading a chapter and suddenly it has ended. But if thoroughly edited this book will definitely be at the top. I recommend it to young kids who will enjoy interacting with a hero. Also, historical fiction lovers will enjoy reading this.Laughter ricocheted through the circl Ft"lefte of men.
