If you are looking for a book that can be read in one sitting, then A Kingdom Forgotten by Charles W. McDonald Jr. isn't for you. It is the most complex book I have ever read. I didn't even begin to understand what was happening in the story until I have read about a third of the book. The beginning was really messy with many different worlds, timelines, locations, and characters. It was really hard to keep track of all the different characters. Reading the book itself was like a challenge to me. However, I'm not saying that I didn't like it in the end. The story had an unexpected ending which cannot be guessed easily while you're reading the book.

A Kingdom Forgotten is the first book in the Throne of Souls series and it is really unique in its own way. Damon, the protagonist, isn't necessarily a good character. He is described in the book as unique, dangerous, ruthless man and he is the strongest of all mages (lameans). He is currently working on a 'Master Plan’ which is the most important thing to him now. Radin, another character, has recently discovered his powers and is being mentored by Damon. The book also has several other powerful and interesting characters from many different worlds.

The end of the world is near and war has already started in many worlds including Earth. The prophecies are being fulfilled and Damon has started to wonder about his own role as he works on his agenda. Radin, who thinks he is ‘The One’ according to the prophecies, tries everything in his power to fulfill his role as many others try to stop him or get in his way. A Kingdom Forgotten unites both magic and science in a way that no one can imagine.

I am amazed at the fact that the author was able to keep a good track on all the different worlds, characters, and timelines. However, I must say that he should have put more effort on giving the readers an easy reading experience. The pace of the book is too slow and you may have to read it again and again to fully understand it. Most of the sultry scenes in the book were totally unnecessary.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the slow paced reading experience. I recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi and who doesn't mind reading complex stories. The book may not be suitable for novice readers and young audiences because of the level of complexity.
