Great review, but I must admit that the interchange between the first and third person perspective or pov was confusing. Tysz does that a lot in this series.

Yes, it does take a bit to get in the flow of how he writes. Thanks for the comment!

Great review! I like how you pointed out that this book is the foundation for the rest of the series; I think it may be very helpful to others who may also feel a bit confused in the beginning. It looks like the author created a really complex universe. I've read some of his other books, and I can't wait to read this one. Thank you for a very nice and well-detailed review.

Thanks! He certainly put a lot of work into the detail of the world he created!

I generally avoid committing to a series, so I haven’t read any of the Voulhire books, but I love reading all the reviews. I didn’t realize Galen’s great-uncle was still alive when he left for Voulhire. I hope you enjoy the next books in the series. Thanks for your thorough take on this one!

I do prefer books that can be read as stand alone, so I am not strapped to a series. I also like to wait for a series to be completed before I jump in so I don't have to wait for a next installment and can binge-read the whole series.

Great book and review. I did not manage to escape the impression that the author found the inspiration for the book in Europe.

I just finished reading this same book and scored it 4 stars. I was particularly pleased with how the author incorporated a lot of suspense, especially relating to Meldorath. I look forward to seeing how it all plays out in the following books of the series.
