Solaris Seethes is the first volume in a saga of amateur heroes, budding friendships, betrayal, action, spaceships, time travel, pirates, alien species, and a mission to save the galaxy.

Rynah is a devoted security guard on the planet Lynar for her world's most important asset. Her resolve is tested when her world is turned upside down. A personal betrayal puts her world at risk and renders her job extinct, but she quickly finds a new responsibility as the past and a prophecy collide with the present. With the help of her grandfather's artificially intelligent spaceship and a handful of unsuspecting earthling misfits, Rynah embraces her new mission and faces her personal demons.

Using an old legend as a guidebook, Rynah struggles to lead a team that includes: a middle aged Viking warrior named Alfric, an ancient Greek scribe-in-training named Solon, a bullied teenage girl named Brie, an up-and-coming tech genius named Tom, and an AI system with an attitude named Solaris. Each member brings their own baggage along on the journey as well as the challenge to find a way to work together as personalities clash.

Their mission: to find the remaining elements of a weapon powerful enough to destroy the galaxy and keep it from the enemy. Their enemy: a coldblooded killer who seems to always be one step ahead of them. Traveling from one world to the next, they encounter everything from man-eating plants to giant tigers to pirates along with their ruthless enemy and his goons.

Solaris Seethes keeps the reader on the edge of their seat as each chapter is filled with tension, action, conflict, and revelation. Each of the protagonists fill a role within this band of heroes and can easily be related to on some level. The humor from a sarcastic Solaris matched with the entertaining emulsion of earthlings into an alien galaxy create an effective comic relief without diverting from the seriousness of the conflict.

While this novel is ripe with interesting characters, conflict, and sci-fi elements; it would be nice to see more of the main villain. His presence seems to take a backseat in the overall story. There are glimpses of his character and from the pieces seen, he appears to be intriguing so it's a bit disappointing he's not around more. However, with this being the first novel in the saga, he will hopefully, and likely, become more visible as the saga continues.

I give this book a 4 out of 4 rating and would highly recommend it to Sci-Fi fans. Solaris Seethes would be a great read for anyone into the Sci-Fi genre. Alien species, space and time travel, multiple worlds, advanced technology, and the fight between good and evil are the makings of a good Sci-Fi saga and this first volume has it all. The ending will leave the reader in a state of shock and thirsty for more.

You liked this book a bit more than I did, but I do agree that it is a fun sci-fi romp around new galaxies.
