Poetry recommendations please

Post by Sable Raven »

Looking for some good poetry book recommendations.
I really like poetry, but haven't read a whole lot of it, so any ideas would be appreciated. I am however, not really into romantic stuff.

I love the poems of TS Eliot (for beautiful language), Charles Bukowski (for gritty realism), and Emily Dickinson (for lovely imagery). :)

Right off the top of my head I'd say Edna St.Vincent Millay's stuff. To get an idea of her genius: she wrote Renaissance when she was only nineteen years old. I was so taken by it that I took upon myself the task of memorizing it when I was a junior in high school - not a simple task. Lament and Dirge Without Music are also among my favorite poems - also by Millay.
“I just got out of the hospital. I was in a speed reading accident. I hit a book mark and flew across the room.”

The only one I can think of is crank by ellen hopkins. I haven't read much from poetry but this one was good. It's about a teenager and her struggles with drugs and some family issues.

Robert Service is nice. I've only read one book of his but it was really good- it's brown with a sketch of a man on a horse in front of mountains

Not poetry as we usually know it, but milk and honey by Rupi Kaur
