Some of my favorite scifi books are by Ray Bradbury or Kurt Vonnegut. My most recent scifi of Bradbury's was The Martian Chronicles. I've also greatly enjoyed Farenheit 451! Kurt Vonnegut has a great array of scifi books including Slaughterhouse-Five!
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is another great one and one of my boyfriend's favorites!

I recommend you everything ever written by Isaac Asimov! his stories are awesome. You can start by reading "I, robot"

Also, "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells

Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Left Hans of Darkness is brilliant and a classic.

Really all of Le Guin’s stuff is amazing, if you can find it The Lathe of Heaven is good too.

Haven't read them but Octavia Butler's work always gets cited as being very good.

Science fiction is a big category. Here are some of my recommendations:
Poor Man's Fight series by Elliot Kay - first book is Poor Man's Fight
RCN Series by David Drake - first book is With the Lightnings
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
Neuromancer by William Gibson (anything by Gibson, but Neuromancer is the best place to start)
