If autobiography works for you, Mao's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin is a fantastic one.
She/Her

People who say “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” don’t understand how words can be stones, hard and sharp-edged and dangerous and capable of doing so much more harm than anything physical.

Jung Chang's Mao: The Unknown Story is also a good read. Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson is also a great one.
