Which movie ruined a good book?

Post by Emi_Review »

There are a ton of books that have been turned into a movie or a TV Series. I was wondering, what is the one movie that you absolutely hate that ruined a good book? What about it made you hate it so much? I'm curious to see the answers!

Sorry to say this but the entire Harry Potter series. All the scenes I'd dreamed up in my head were a notch higher than what the movie guys came up with. Although mine is a strong dislike, not hatred lol.

The Hobbit trilogy. The first movie was okay, but movies two and three... The less said about those the better. But the thing is this ultimately goes back to Lord of the Rings. It kind of hurts to say that because they are one of my favorite movies ever, but I feel they didn't understand LOTR's true genre. I think Tolkien's goal was to create something that paid homage to fairy-tales and epics like Beowulf. The movies didn't really have that "feeling." Which is not to say they didn't create something great with LOTR, but with The Hobbit it just didn't work because it was downright a children's fairy-tale. It's a very different book from LOTR and yet they made it in the same "serious" style.

My Sisters Keeper was a much better book than a movie. The different ending with the opposite sister dying ruined the movie for me. As much as Anna's death broke me while reading the book, it made the storyline better.

I agree with the hobbit and My sisters keeper and ill also add The mortal Instruments and almost every YA movie like that one because they always try to change the wstory to make it more about the romance than to follow the original and they also fail in translate the special effects.

Eragon. That was an absolute murder of a very good book.

I know, right? I was so mad at whoever made that movie. It's a great book and a great series.

The series Shannara (on MTV) was nowhere nearly as great as the books by Terry Brooks. (just my opinion). It seemed that they tried to make it too modern, or something.

The Hunger Games were not as good as I had hoped. The first one was the best of the three in my opinion, and Jennifer Lawrence was great.
Also, Paper Towns by John Green. I enjoyed the book, hated the film. Very glad I didn't waste money going to see it in the cinema!

I am so relieved to come on this thread and immediately see the Harry Potter films and The Hobbit trilogy mentioned, because I really cannot stand the films. The first two and last two HP films were alright, but the constant changing of directors made them so inconsistent that the thought of a movie marathon makes me shudder. The Hobbit should never have been a trilogy and was probably the biggest cinematic disappointment I have ever experienced.

A TV series that disappointed me compared to the books is The Magicians. I couldn't even finish the first season because it kept annoying me how many liberties they were taking, when I loved the books so much.

Honestly The Hunger Games was ruined for me. The movie wasn’t accurate at all. The Divergent series is also a big time ruined movie. In the last book Tris does, but in the movie she doesn’t.
