Growing up I was taught to only cook what you can finish to avoid wastage. So, if there was going to be some food that'll be left over it'd be a favorite dish I can always eat.

I'm pretty lucky because my other half will take 3 different leftovers and just mix them together :lol2: But if we have a leftover protein like chicken or steak, I end up making a big batch of nachos with other fresh ingredients. Typically, leftovers are used for lunch when we do have them.

I usually make another dish with leftover protein, like chicken or turkey. Like today, I made jerk turkey nachos. Any other leftover will be placed in the freezer or eaten the next day.

Some I try to freeze, but mostly I put them in the crockpot and make soup. Add a few things to spice it up and some broth. It's sually pretty tasty.

If it’s rice, I add vegetables and eggs to make fried rice
If it’s tomato stew, I add rice to make jollof

I try to ensure that there are no left overs. But incase of any, we throw it in the trash. There is no way I can convince members of my household to eat them.

When there are leftovers from a meal, I have several dozen sizes of to go containers, cleaned and ready to contain those leftovers. Piles of containers in the fridge throughout the week become one large lunch. Often, when the leftovers have been around for several days, they will be moved out of the fridge and into the dog bowl.

Eat them. Let me explain. When I cook I cook so there is leftovers and I have something to eat for a couple weeks. I don't cook every time I am hungry I just take what I cooked before out of the fridge and enjoy. I was really surprised when I learnt that people make dinner every evening.
