I made lots of pasta and rice meals. Sometimes a pot of soup or chili to eat throughout the week.

During my college days, we had a restaurant but I preferred making my own food. I don't like junk foods so I made sure I had cereals and vegetables.

I am vegan so I mainly eat rice/pasta/quinoa/potatoes/lasagna with salads and beans for protein. I also enjoy some soy yogurts and fake meats. It's not that expensive, really.

Walking around campus helps a lot! Pile veggies and fruits on your plate. Portion control is key!

I didn’t quite go the ramen route, but I went into college unable to cook so I ate a lot of microwaveable stuff. That and drunk eating got me in the first few years and then I figured my stuff out. I would recommend buying some stuff in bulk if you have the space for it and cook enough of a protein source for the week so it will be something that you can grab quick. That will definitely help. Also try to join different activity groups or sports leagues/something that you can commit to that will keep you active!

I'll tell you this - I don't know one single person in college who ate healthy.

Freshman 15 happens from stress and drinking, not the crappy food available. Just exercise a tiny bit and you won't have to worry. All you have to do is leave late for every class, then as you're walking as fast as humanly possible, you'll burn off those calories. :P

My go-to eats in college were canned soup, cereal and frozen perogies.

Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'

I did not live on campus when I was in college. However, I do have a bit of advice for those who are students...

I found that I struggled to stay awake while in class and while reading textbooks. Something that helps me is eating food. Of course this can be bad if you eat the WRONG foods! I limited myself to small items such as dried cranberries or grapes or nuts. If you're eating while reading, it will help keep your mind sharp, and if you pick healthy options, you can avoid the Freshman 15!

Simple meal is enough. Fruits, fish and a portion of pork.

Always cook at home. And meal prep.

Cooking meals with store-bought ingredients is a lot cheaper than buying out, and you can control what goes into your food. You can make them as healthy (or unhealthy) as you like. Meal prepping (cooking in bulk then preparing proportions for later mealtimes) saves time in terms of the actual cooking process and the decision making process (on what to eat).

Meal prep saved me in college. Take one day to cook for the week.

The main issue I face is the "hostel food" which is spicy and oily, so literary not good for my stomach and health. But there is only available option for this which is takeaway food which is not a good option either. Having a meal plan would be the only option if I were to cook food. But studies busy routine do not allow that. I think I might need suggestions myself. :(

Were you on one of those "ramen noodle every night" budgets or were you doing okay? Also, any tips on staying healthy and avoiding the pesky freshman 15?
Keep a timetable. That helped me a lot and it will help you too.

I always carried around my food. I didn't care what people thought, I had to eat healthier. My gut is very sensitive and I was also attending gym at the time.

I had a scholarship during university and I would get a monthly stipend. I ate a lot of Subway and cheap food from small restaurants.
