I have two answers to this question. I originally started to use the stove to cook when I was about 14 years old. I would make the basics, pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. It wasn't until I turned 22 when I began to really learn how to cook, and now I am on a roll.

I had those parents! They didn't trust me or my brother at all in the kitchen and were worried we'd just make a mess. I didn't start cooking until I left for college!

Being a successful foodie means knowing your territory. I started simple meals at six, like eggs, bacon, nuggets, rice. I jumped into the major leagues at 9. By then I was my family's go-to girl for all manner of gustatory fulfillment.

I must have been around 9 when I learned the easy stuff. Like eggs, pasta and rice. I did bake a lot. Together with my mum when I was younger than that.

When I was in grammar school, my next-door neighbor was our babysitter and was also was a food service supervisor. She taught me how to make lemon meringue pie and fudge. She also taught me to make the best pot roast in the world. It had garlic poked into the center of it and was marinated in vinegar and strong coffee. Don't ask me why this works, but it was the tenderest, tastiest roast imaginable. And you can't taste the coffee. I started making the lemon meringue pie for my family when I was about 10 I would guess. Fun topic.

I started watching and "helping" my mother cook around the age of 8. I mastered 5 dishes by the age of 15 and now whenever i have the time i try a new recipe, i can't say it's always better than takeout food, but i definitely have a blast everytime.

I think I was quite small, I don't remember the exact age but my grandma used to let me crack the eggs for pancakes and measure the flower and peel the potatoes and things like that from early on.

Growing up with a Nigerian mum practically means staying with her in the kitchen from age 5 to help her with little chores.I did my first cooking of concoction rice at age 7.
