Funny Things People Say To People Who Own Books.

Post by Denv12 »

I would imagine that we all have all heard funny comments about our books. It seems there are those people out there who dont own books. My visitors come into my home. They look on the coffee table where there are several books I keep out to have a read at times, usually on my favourite cars.People will look at the table, point at the books. Then they'll say "Oh...you've got books". It annoys me when people do that. I have furniture,I have an electric piano, etc. But its the books that they notice. I never know how to reply to their comment. Sometimes I say,"Yes,I bought them. You can still buy books, you know". Do they not own books? Are they shocked that books still exist?

What comments do people make about your books?

I change my books around regularly so I have different ones out.I keep the latest ones I bought on the table for awhile.

Thanks.

I have people come into my house and say “oh do you actually like reading”. “Oh wow there’s soo many books, how is it even possible to read that much” and my favourite “I just don’t understand how someone could read that much willingly”.

If someone saw my bookshelves, they might say, "Wow! There's so many books! "

I've just now gotten to the point when not all my books could fit on the shelves. xD It makes me glad I have a Kindle.

Omg, this! I've had friends in the past who would give me weird looks when I would mention a book making me emotional or me being sad the book is over. I'm an extremely empathetic person so relate to stories very easily. I never understood that they didn't until then. I just thought that's how everyone read.

"Why would you keep the book after you have finished reading it?"

or

"What will you do of the book, once you finish reading it? Why would you spend so much on it?"

It's extremely frustrating!

"Do you just like.....read?"

Someone once pointed out that my bookshelves were about to break and my immediate response was "I'm not selling my books!" ... they were so confused by that response because they were going to offer to fix my selves for me. lol - I'm so used to people thinking I'm odd for having books that it didn't occur to me they would be saying anything else.

You have so many books, what did you join the library for?
Are you still not done buying books?
Do you run a library here?
Do you read all these books or are they a show piece?

"What do you do with all these books?" A: I read them.
"Why do you need books?" A: To read them.
"It looks like you're running a library. How can I check out a book?" A:Do you dog-ear pages? Then never.

People who come to my house are not surprised that I own a lot of books, cause after 10 minutes of meeting me they already know how obessed I am. But still a lot of people are shocked that I read for fun.

"Have you really read all of these?"

and

"It's cheating if you haven't read all these books" (which floors me... why would I buy ALL these books for looks? ha)
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” HST

1. Where do you get the money to buy these books from?
2. What’s the use of all these books?
3. Do you own a library?
4. Have you actually read these books or they are just there so you can show off?
