They do. This is made worse if the narration technique is clumsy and the story itself is quite boring or full of repetitions. It can make me take quite a while before completing the book.

I have this habit of checking the size (in case of printed books) or the page numbers (in case of ebooks) before I start reading. Books with less than 500 pages often sparks my interest, while those on the higher side dims it a little. And even after I start reading a lengthy book, it has to be much more interesting to keep me engrossed than an average sized book.

As long as it's a good book I wouldn't be put off by a long book. I used to be put off during my younger days until I read the Harry Potter books. Those books forever changed my perspective on long/big books.

Long books are a problem for me. This is why I've never been able to read Stephen King's novels because I have a short attention span! I'd love to read one of his books though - maybe I'll try soon.

I'm usually wary of any sci-fi or fantasy novel under 500 pages. True some of the best like Tolkien or Herbert are less than that, but in general the modern avid sci-fi/fantasy reader needs some serious depth in a story to outshine those greats. 1000 pages and multiple books do not faze me at all in the pursuit of a mind bending reading experience

Some of my favorites are long books. I love stories that span generations of a family. Usually, the longer the book, the deeper the story goes.

They do and I wish I read more.
Anna Karenina was difficult for me- but amazing.
Next on my list is Les Miserables.
Bring it on page count.

When I'm shopping for books in the bookstore, I tend to gravitate towards the ones that are large, that belong to a series, or (even better) are large and belong to a series. I do this more so with Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels, because it generally means there's more world-building and I can spend a longer time in that world.

I enjoy long books. If a book is too ahort i get disappointed unless its part of a long series. I like to have time for the author to develop the characters and the story. Then of course i hate for good books to end.

I usually prefer short and easy works that I can digest in chunks at a time, since long books can thematically meander for a bit in the middle and ruin the pacing. Even experienced writers aren't necessarily immune to creating reading slogs.

I also prefer short books but it is full of some action or some interesting topics, then I will not mind reading long books. The only disadvantage of the long book is if the subject matter is one that does not captivate me.

I love reading long books. To me, I think, they give more of a suspense and more details to major parts.

Yes, if the book is too long, it puts me off. A book of 200 to 500 pages sounds good for me.

I tend to gravitate towards larger books, because it prevents the story from ending too fast! Though if the book is mediocre or bad, it just drags on...
