I have can seem to get my self into books about sports or any book that focus on slavery in the US. The only exception is huckleberry finn. So, does anyone else have genre or subject that bore you to tears or one that turns you stomach?

I have no desire to read romance novels. They just don't seem appealing to me as simply a story, and I don't feel I would gain any knowledge from them. I'm not very interested in books about sports either. I'm also turned off by most religious books unless they are objective. I can't stand being preached to.

Romance and science fiction are genres I avoid the most. They are just not the kind of books I read.

While I'm not completely opposed to horror, I will never read another Dean Koonz novel. One was plenty. It's been at least 15 years since I read it and my skin still crawls when I think about that book.

Romance novels (which are usually more about sex than romance) and anything about zombies.

I can't do the Romance genre. It's too formulaic, they all sound the same. It feels like the author is trying to make a sale rather than playing with character tropes. Plus, it's an aggressively heteronormative genre.

I don't like self-help books, I tried reading a couple once, and I just couldn't.

Also, I can't stand Young Adult anymore, when I was 14 or so, I read twilight and all of that, but now with 25 years old, I can't stand those kind of stories, I need depth in the story.

Self-help books are not just for me. I am too picky when it comes to this genre but the rest I move along well with them.

I don't like romance, only because I don't want to read about the sex. The romance itself isn't bad. I'm also not interested in war books or sports books.

I feel you about religious books! And I often feel the same way with many 'self-help' books. I pick up a few when they sound interesting so I'm not entirely opposed, but I often end up feeling preached to.

I absolutely agree that it revolves around heteronormative storylines and that's all too real but I'm seeing an increase in books that have lgbt relationships! In romance as a genre I think the most popular ones are gay, but I read two YA fantasies that was wlw recently and it was something I never thought I needed -- so I think I'd be open to pick up a few romance books (after being deathly opposed to them for five years!)

Incest, I tried to read Game of Thrones, I even bought a paperback first book of the series and made my way into the smell of paper but I could barely go through half of it. I am hoping someone could get it off my hands, it was such a pretty book but too gross for me. I know many of you won't like it about Game of Thrones but I just couldn't see past it, trust me I tried.

By the time, I read Little women, my preference has moved on. I liked the story in general terms but in greatly in terms of reading. Jo March was a very strong character and must be unique considering the era it was written it but I liked Amy more. In my opinion, I am too much like Jo and wanted to be a bit like Amy, talented, graceful and the ability to lead a household which meant handling men, smartly and generously.
