Book 104: The Charterhouse of Parma by Stendhal. Despite the abrupt end, which all the publishers blame on the printers of the time, Stendhal manages to deliver a continuous Italian court intrigue that never fails to entertain. For this reason, the final pages are so disappointing.
The historical and fictional characters were intermingled in such a way that the reader does not notice any difference between them. On the other hand, the main characters are fully immersed in the passions and hatreds of the powerfuls and can hardly do anything other than build their own intrigues to get free or achieve their desires.
Although Sanseverina was the one who caught my attention the most because she did what she wanted with all the men who loved her and she always had the last word in all her relationships. This in a woman who was over forty at that courtly time made me think that she was a sorceress or a time traveler. She deserves her own novel and I wish the book portrayed her more than she already had in abundance. Although the abrupt ending did not tell more details about her ending, I imagine her partying until the last day and laughing at her happiness.
I really liked this story and although it did repeat some plot lines from Red and Black, it has its own merits and everyone who read the other novel should give it a try. 4/5

I'm done with this year's challenge.

I just finished 2 books: It's Hard to Be a Vampire by Viktoria Faust (5/5) & In the End by Ken Saik (4/5).

It's Hard to Be a Vampire by Viktoria Faust is a horror sci-fi book that is made out of 9 short horror stories. It was a really fast and fun read, with a lot of surprising twists that had me shaking my head in disbelief, but also had me laughing.

In the End by Ken Saik is about 12 Senior boys that were swallowed by a sinkhole while in a garage. It is about their journey through old mining caves to try and get out. This book has a very unusual ending and it was a fantastic read!
