Every time I see this thread, I think that it's talking about selling a book that you've written, and I think, "Isn't that kind of the purpose of writing a book? To sell it and make money?" And then I have to  myself.

I should have done that. Never would I have parted with my lit books and I didn't. I still have them and my niece's as well, since she hates literature which is something I can't even begin to understand. I wasn't as savvy then as I am now. That's for sure. :)

I don't think I have ever sold a book, not even my old school textbooks. I am a bit of a hoarder.

Yep, if I have no need for them anymore, might as well let someone else enjoy them!

We've sold some books to a used book store but we can only get credit there, not actual money, so we just get new (to us?) books out of the deal.

I've been thinking about selling the books that I've read already to make a little money, but I can't push myself to do it because I like saving my books to put on a bookshelf and I like looking at all the boys I've read so far

I used to work for a used bookstore, and I loved the idea of books finding a new home through trade-ins. I've sold countless books for money, and I've traded even more books for store credit. That's my favorite thing to do because it's like you give something and then get something, too!

No not really. I usually loan them to friends or donate them.

My Gram used to teach us to never loan or let someone borrow something unless we didn't want it back because people do tend to forget where they get things from. It was sound advice and it makes it easier to let others have things.

Yes, indeed! I browse thrift stores, yard sales, and any other book sales I can find, looking for 1st Editions, special interest, famous authors, cookbooks, etc., then, resell online. I don't make much money, but, every once in a while I do get lucky!

Well, I've sold books for money, of course. In yard sales, ebay, Amazon, etc. If I don't want/need a book anymore, I'll try to get a few bucks for it. Makes sense to me. I don't view books as something holy or sacred. If I know I'll never read a book again, why keep it?
