What is the book you recommend the most?

Post by micoleon13 »

Whenever I have someone ask what book should they read, I usually have a couple of ones which I'll instantly recommend, then perhaps throw in whatever enjoyed reading lately.

What are some examples of people's mainstay book recommendations?

Mine are The bronze horseman : Paulina Simons,
And The name of the Wind : Patrick Rothfuss

It definitely depends on what the person wants to read. I feel like at least one good book recommendation for each genre, both YA and adult, but some of them I may have to look up online before recommending them. I have a horrible memory, so I forget the titles of even amazing books that left impressions on me.

I haven't really recommended books lately. One that I have read quite a bit - "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn " by Betty Smith would be a recommendation. I read it as a child and I re read it from time to time.

I would warmly recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It is captivating and you just can't let it out from your hands. It has healthy philosophy that makes you think and meditate about life. But also has plenty of action that doesn't bore and makes you wonder how will it end.

I would recommend Mink River by Bryan Doyle. I blindly grabbed a copy for two bucks at a thrift store, but I absolutely loved it. The prose is beautiful and unlike anything that I’ve ever read. Bryan Doyle paints a beautiful, scenic environment and creates such realistic, but dreamy characters. I couldn’t get enough of this novel.

After finally having read it, I always default to recommending "The Count of Monte Cristo". It has absolutely everything in it and is the epic revenge tale that has survived the test of time.

For teens, I recommend The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. It changed me into who I am, but I still loved reading it. So many heartfelt moments.

I'd definitely recommend The Godfather by Mario Puzo. In addition to being a spectacularly written plot with amazing descriptions, it also has a philosophical side to it, and one can learn many life lessons from the book.
A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one...

It's always hard to think of a recommendation, especially if the one who is asking is a picky reader. I prefer to give them author names, so they can see for themselves which stories would fit their taste, but it's never easy.

If it's about historical fiction, I like to recommend Outlander by D. Gabaldon or Julie Garwood (even for those who don't like that genre). For crimes, it's Agatha Christie without doubt, Jane Austen for those who like light reads and J.L. Armentrout for young adults who love contemporary romance and fantasy. These are just a few examples, but something can always be found no matter how picky they are.
