From a visual point of view, I'd say hardback, but paperbacks are much more practical.

Paperback. Easy to buy or purchase. Hardcover books are limited sometimes. Just handle the paperback with care. That's all.

There's just something about hardcovers that makes me more eager to read.

You make a good point.

If I had someone to transport my books whenever I moved I would probably go with Hardbacks, there is just something so comforting about the heft : ) and the words don't disappear into the spine as much as little paperbacks. Not to mention that they usually come out with the beautiful illustrated special editions in hardback...

Paperback! Paperback books are more practical for on the go and for a commute on the subway or a long bus ride. To me, hardcovers are more for the aesthetic and the covers always slipping and ripping and falling off so not very practical for someone who carries their books everywhere.

True but hardcover gives me this amazing feeling about a book that paperback doesn't.

I don't have a preference, I have a whole mixture of hardcovers and paperbacks on my bookshelf! It depends on what version I buy on the day!

I think at the end of the day what matters is the content.

I prefer an old paperback, but a new crisp hardback is something I would struggle to resist owning. I do always removed the dust jackets while I am reading though as they really annoy me!

What bugs me the most is when I have a series that I have some books in paperback and some in hardback, I don't really have the money to justify buying more copies so it looks nice but it does erk me!

I prefer hardcover because I love the way they feel in your hands! But paperbacks are usually way cheaper and therefore I can buy more books :D I don't dislike either but I love hardbacks more

I prefer paper backs because I can get more on the shelves! Also, my rabbits tend to eat the hard backs!
