Re: Do You Remove Book Jackets?

Generally I leave the jacket on but occasionally I buy second-hand books that have a damaged jacket and if there's a risk of causing further damage while reading the book then I take it off before I start reading it and put it back after I finished.

If I am borrowing the book and the jacket is particularly problematic, yes. If I own the book and the jacket is fragile, I'll take it off while reading, then put it back on before returning it to my shelf.

I just set it on the book shelf until I am done reading. Then I put it back on once I place the book on my shelf. I don't think I could ever throw them away. The book would always feel incomplete to me!

I always take them off when I'm reading a book, particularly because they tend to get damaged if I pack a book in my backpack. I always keep them though because I have some particularly beautiful ones. I am currently reading Ptolmey's Gate and the dust jacket has a holographic look that I really love!

On an slightly related note, some books also look beautiful without their dust jackets. I have a couple books that have hidden embossing on the actual cover and those are fun to discover.

I often remove them because I'm afraid I might crease them when I read outside.
But I just place them neatly by the side. I would never throw them away.

No I try to keep them on, and use the flaps as bookmarks. But I also have a toddler, and she loves to take my book jackets off and leave them all over the house. Like an animal.

I remove it while I am reading it cause it usually gets messed up if I don't - put it back on when I shelve it

Me too ! *LOL*
You can count me as the third!

I take it off to actively read, mainly so I don't tear it, but it gets put somewhere safe and is back on the book when I'm done!
I honestly never even considered throwing it away! Usually I just end up keeping it on while I read. The book seems naked without it

This is exactly what I do! I find they make great bookmarks!

I really don't like them, but I can never throw them away. So I end up having a pile of book covers in my house somewhere. I just think the books look so much nicer without them.

While reading I normally take it off to make sure it does not get damaged, then of course when it goes back on the shelf I return the cover to its natural habitat.

I remove the jacket because I worry about damaging it. As soon as I am finished reading the book, the jacket goes back on and the book goes on my shelf.

Jolyon Trevelyan wrote: 22 Jan 2016, 15:38 On Hardcover books there is always ( at least very often ) a book jacket or cover what ever you call it. So i wonder do you remove this and throw it away or do you keep it on the book ?

Personally i remove it and throw it away.
I usually remove it while reading, as it is not very practical. After finishing, I put the book jacket back on the book, before placing it in the bookshelf. It is good for protecting the book :techie-studyingbrown: :techie-reference: :techie-studyinggray:

I usually leave it on, but will sometimes take it off as I'm reading it. I have bought a lot of books second hand from the library so the jackets are taped on, which I also like.

I tend to remove the jacket before I read the book, but then I replace it when I'm finished. Since book's cover beneath the jacket is usually just a solid color with no design, I prefer to keep the jacket.
