I like a book to start with action. There has to be something interesting going on. I don't want fifty pages of background and lead up. I'll never get through them.

I had never considered this either and am surprised many people like information first. I love when the story starts off with something quirky or funny a character does (in my preferred cozy mysteries), or the tragedy happens first (in the murder mysteries I read). If there is an introduction, I have a harder time getting into the book.
