Re: Would you judge a book by it's FONT?

Maybe this makes me a terrible human being, but I am a hardcore font-judger. If I see Papyrus or Comic Sans anywhere--especially on a book--it makes my nose wrinkle and, occasionally, I full-on shudder. Other fonts that are too big or too bright make me upset, too. Give me a good, sturdy, serifed Times New Roman or Georgia or Cambria, even, and I'm giddy. Even 8 pt Verdana makes me all fuzzy.

(Note: If you're strangely obsessed with fonts, like I am, I highly recommend the documentary 'Helvetica'!)

I couldn't name a font if my life depended on it. I font even really get the hate for comic sans. What's wrong with it exactly?

I tend to judge a book by its cover. If the cover doesn't jump out at me or is done unprofessionally, then I will skip it. I need to work on that because I'm sure I am missing out on some great books

Yes, of course I would. Fonts can usually make a book more enjoyable to read or harder to read. The great thing about owning a kindle is that I don't have to worry about it. I can change the font to the one the suits me. As far as traditional books go, there have been times when I refused to read a book because I didn't like the font.

Honestly, I think the font correlates with the theme of the book. If the theme doesn't match the chosen font, yes I'd be judgmental.

YES. I require Times New Roman or Courier. They're so...bookish.

I will only be bothered if the font is either unreadable or distracting. I once read a book, one of those horror anthology series with reader-submitted content, and it was printed in Chiller font. It was too distracting, as if it was trying too hard to be creepy looking. I read it to the end anyway. Otherwise, the font does not really matter to me.

I agree with the other members, it doesn't matter what font the publisher use as long as it's not distracting. But if it's a good book, the font won't stop me from finishing a good read.

The font can sometimes make it take longer to get into the book, but after a while I adjust and enjoy the book as much as I would have otherwise.

I only judge a book by its font if it affects my reading. I feel as though books with unique fonts stand out more and provide a more memorable experience!

if the font was too big or too small that it made it hard to read then i'd be too distracted

I have before... Some fonts are more difficult to read than others, and some are used purposefully to give a character a different look to others so you can identify them. I love books that change fonts depending on character or emotion.

Font does not really matter. But too little or too large a font does affect the reading experience.

It depends. The font is usually chosen for a reason. Though if it is an unprofessional cutesy font on a serious dramatic book...I just couldn't take it seriously.
