I typically avoid nonfiction because I use reading to escape real life. I also like to avoid horror because I frighten easily.

I stay away from non-fiction books because I find them boring. I also avoid erotic books. It's just not my cup of tea.

Generally, if I know or read a review about a book that has sex scenes I don't dare pick it up. So on a more appropriate note, I avoid romance novels because I believe it this genre that have books with sex scenes.

Horrror and Romance are my two big nos. Horror scares and bores me in equal measure. And every romance novel I've ever tried (admittedly there aren't many) never gave me a reason to actually care about the characters, and whether or not they will end up in bed together.

I am not a big fan of romance novels. The few that I have read seem all the same. No matter how much the woman hates the man, all obstacles are overcome and they live happily ever after. I need more excitement in my books than that.
Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.

I generally avoid romance, but I don't mind a little bit that doesn't take away from the story. I also avoid nonfiction but I have read a few memoirs that I liked. Do those count as nonfiction?

Horror and thriler because I have a very active imagination. Nightmares ? science fiction depends on my mood as it wasn't my forte but I didn't steer clear of it either.
Other genres are great because I found lots of interesting book. Although plotlines are a bit tiring and kinda the same for especially for romance, like the nowadays romance book that features millionaires, billionaires, gazillionaires whatever ?but I do like to read it anyway to see if it present other twists that would make it different from other books with same concept.

Horror. Horror. Horror.

I basically see books and films in this genre as an unnecessary waste of eyesight. For me, they just amount to nothing but an overloading of the system with unhealthy dose of adrenaline, all to no advantage.

Romance novels for sure. I guess it's a guy thing, but I just have no interest at all in reading about romantic or love content. Unlike most of the females I know, who have at least dabbled in romance books.

I don't really read too much fantasy. I don't believe in imaginary creatures or worlds easily, unless the book is really well written.

Dystopian. I think they should be categorized in the "Horror" section. They ones I have read are post-apocalyptic in one way or another and they all show the really evil side of mankind. They show me a world I never want to see.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

Tragedies. I hate sad endings so much. It doesn't give me any satisfaction.

Fantasy ---fairies, aliens, walking trees, etc., they just don't do it for me. I like reading realistic stories.
Crime thriller ---reading news and watching TV is more than enough when it comes to all things criminal...

I tend to read books also to escape to my own world of imagination where I can fantasize about anything. I find that non-fiction kinda of contradicts that in some way or another and ties me down to the mundane passing of normalcy. But I guess everyone is different.
