What do you do when you can't decide which book to read next?

Post by AlexisLib »

I finished a book a few days ago and now I can't decide, should I read a book up for review or a book on my to read list or the next book of the month? I have tons of books to choose from, why can't I decide lol?

What do you do when you can't decide what to read next?

this problem just gets harder and harder for me over the years. Sometimes i hate to finish a book for this exact reason. I call this a reading funk. Sometimes you have to grab any book near you and just start reading! I have been reading over 50 years and starting a new book hasn't gotten any easier and I love to read. I read 60 books just this year. I have so many books that I want to read that I have trouble picking the next one to read. I understand the problem but I don't have a solution.

I just sleep on it and I come back to decide some other time. It's surprising the number of problems a good night rest can solve. Or I just trust my gut and pick one up.

I have neverror really had this problem, I just pick one, as long as it is good, I am good. you can pick after reading the summary of the book, that helps a lot.

At times when I confused with what to read I just click a screenshot of all the books in my ebook library and send it to my best friend, who just randomly selects one book for me.

Depending on what I feel and how my mood is, I decide the book to read next.

It is all about my mood. Sometimes I want a good sci/fi book with magicians and sword play. Sometimes I want a mystery with a good suspenseful storyline. Or sometimes I just want to read the book series with a pretty cover.

If I can't decide on any book at all, I will take a break and re-read a favourite of mine. That puts me in a good mood to read a new book.

I usually read 2 “simultaneously”. That is, if I get frustrated by a part of one of them I switch, just like you would change series on tv. What happens normally is that I get hooked with one over the other, so when I finish one, I’ve already begun the other.

If I can't decide what book to read next, I usually just go to the library and wander around until one jumps out at me. Or I look around on Goodreads at the books that are similar to ones that I have recently enjoyed.

If I can't decide on what book to read next, I give my self time to refresh myself by reading one of my old favorite books.

I just see my options and pick which seems most interesting. If you have groups like you mentioned, trying to pick up one book from every group continuously seems like a good option.

I watch book recommendations on YouTube or I go back to do what I used to do before Covid. I go to a library and pick out any book that catches my eye.
